TODAY'S STUFF - Hitman Neverlose - 10/31/99

MAMMOTH TANK

Because so many people are waiting for this, I decided to make it next. For those that don't know, X66 Mammoth Tank is armed with dual 120mm cannons making it the most powerful tank on the battle field. It also has dual missile racks to effectively defend against infantry and air units. Below is a picture of the model that I just had time to finish:

WEAPONS

Added the right damages that weapons inflict on the Refinery.

STEALTH TANK SOUNDS

I just noticed that I actually can add the cloaking sounds of the Stealth Tank in TA. I won't do it yet though, because I would have to edit a sound.tdf file for it, and I think that I'll make that in the end when all units have been done. I'm not sure if the enemy can hear the cloaking sounds but at least I can make it have the sound when cloaking and uncloaking.

ADVANCED GUARD TOWER

Firagon will most likely make model for GDI's Advanced Guard Tower next, and I'll continue working on the APC, which is starting to get working now. Unloading still has some problems...

REFINERY

I finished the first version. Because there is no harvester yet, it is purely an extractor built on metal patches.

WEAPONS FACTORY

I modified the Weapons Factory buildtime to be closer to the one in C&C. It takes around 2 minutes to build now, like it did in C&C. I just like that everything is ready, so that I don't have to start adjusting these things later.

REFINERY

Firagon sent me the new version of the Refinery model and I started texturing it, and here's the result. I haven't had time to make the full unit, and I'm possibly going to try to make it to be able to 'build' one (1!) harvester (which will cost nothing and has build time 1), this way you can freely choose when you want the harvester to be deployed...if there is a reason why you shouldn't...maybe attack or something...Anyway, the pic of the model is below:

TECH TREES

What kind of tech tree will C&C:TA have? I wrote two choices for a tech tree, and they have their own bad and good sides in them and I would be happy to see your own visions for the tech tree. Actually I was thinking about a contest and final poll to decide the winner version. So mail in your versions and we'll decide the best ones and you decide from them by the poll.

NOD BUGGY

Yeah!!! It's done already! It looks pretty simple now but it has over 140 faces in it! The first version I made had over 300, so it's far from my original plans...but it's quite good none the less. Available now in the news CNC-TA.zip at the Units page!

REFINERY

I asked Firagon to start working on the Refinery and he really did start it. I received the first version of the model today, but I wasn't fully satisfied in it, so I asked him to fix the faults I told him, and I'll hopefully receive the new version tomorrow, so I can finish it before weekend. :)

FIXED THE BIKE! - Hitman Neverlose - 10/25/99

RECON BIKE

Yes! I fixed it! It was so damn small thing that had slipped by my eyes when making the unit. It was a filename rocket.tdf for the weapon, and it because TA already has a file rockets.tdf in it, it was of course overwritten by TA when loading...anyway it works now, and I quickly took a screenshot of it in action, see below:

They're firing on Arm Commander, but who cares, they work now...but maybe I should make the rocket pods on the back a bit bigger, what do you think?

SMALL UPDATE - Hitman Neverlose - 10/24/99

RECON BIKE

I decided to make this next, and if a strange thing wouldn't happened with it, it would be here already. The weapon is jammed for some odd reason. There are no conflicts, the model is simple, so nothing in it, script is as simple as a unit can have, and there are no other special things that would be wrong...so I'm VERY frustrated about it. Below is a picture of it in Unitviewer (Which seems to be able to turn the turret and such, but in game it won't), just to give you something to look at:

It will have a turning turret in the back, like all TA units must. Anyway, for those that don't know about it, it is a fast motorcycle armed with rockets. It is the fastest ground unit in C&C and mostly used for scouting and harrassing the enemy. I'll try to get it fixed by tomorrow.

2 NEW UNITS!!!!!!!! - Hitman Neverlose - 10/23/99

STEALTH TANK AND HELIPAD

I've been working on C&C-TA all the day. I just went to egt some pizza but otherwise I've used all my time on these two new units.

Nod Stealth Tank is a tank equipped with missiles and special "Lazarus" shield which makes it invisible (TA's cloaking) for enemy. It is also stealth on radar.

Helipad is a construction and repair structure for helicopters. It works like TA's air repair pads, and also constructs helicopters on the pad. Unfortunately you can do both, repair and construct, at the same time right now, but I hope to find a way to go around it in future. Right now it's only available for GDI, but once I get Nod's Apache done, I'll give Nod its own one.

Both units are in the picture below:

The lights on the helipad are animated. The second of the above stealth tanks is cloaked. To reveal enemy stealth tanks, you must be close to them and see them on the minimap. It's not somehow possible to reveal them by being enough close. You must first fire on them.

GUARD TOWER'S UP! - Hitman Neverlose - 10/22/99

GUARD TOWER

Latest addition to C&C-TA's arsenal is the GDI Guard Tower. Mainly used against infantry and light vehicles this defensive structure is the cheapest one in GDI's arsenal. Below is a screenshot of it in purple side colour:

APC AND STUFF

Still working on it. I will try using the Transport Hover as base next, stay tuned for more news, as I don't have college next week which means a lot more time to work on C&C-TA and other TA related stuff. :)

APC

I'm still having problems with the APC. madrat suggested that the problem is in that the unit can't have weapon and be a transporter at the same time. I tried removing the weapon of the APC, but it didn't help. Anyone done a working transport before? If so then mail me, please!

I made the NOD turret model today, but haven't had chance to try it in game yet. I'll post more about this tomorrow...hopefully...

APC

I'm still having problems with the APC, and it's most likely in the scripts as when I try to load a unit on it, it does everything it should, except take the unit inside. Another problem is that once I've done the loading, it won't do it another time...it won't unload or load anymore. The weapon is having some problems too. It usually take about 3 seconds after the command before it fires. I'm gonna do more research on it, as usual...

APC

I decided to make the GDI's APC already, without any infantry. I'm using the Dune:TA troopers for test now. Unfortunately the unit won't load the the infantry...yet. I'm doing some research on it soon, and the actual unit looks and works pretty well. Here's a screenshot of the APC:

Yes I fixed it and it works now. The only bad side of the thing is that you can see the nanospray on the building. But despite this fact it works mighty well and looks cool. Check the pics below and after that get the latest CNC-TA.zip from the Units Page.

I couldn't fix the obelisk laser with madrat's advice, so it must be something else. I gotta continue testing...

WEAPONS FACTORY

I did the GDI Weapons Factory model today, and so far it looks like this:

The texturing looks bright in the unitviewer, but it should be darker in the game. And if it isn't, I will naturally use darker textures, so no worry. I'll try to get it in working condition later today.

OBELISK LASER

madrat told me one possible explanation for the cut end of the Obelisk laser, I hope that I can fix it now...gonna try it later on...

OBELISK OF LIGHT

I forgot that I had made the Obelisk of light model and decided to continue making the actual thing. The latest screenshot of it in action looks like this:

The laser is quite much like the original C&C one. The noticeable differences are the lack of the sound when it loads the shot, and the laser doesn't hit the target immediately, but it goes really fast none-the-less. The ray also gets cut at the end, I know few possible explanations for this already but I gotta do some reasearch on it. I will not add the obelisk to the C&C-TA zip yet but I hope to do so tomorrow, or even later today.

HAND OF NOD

I'm gonna change the texturing on some faces of the Hand of Nod and possibly show the new version later today, stay tuned. (The new pic is above the obelisk pic)

Good thing Webster asked "Any news today?" in ICQ, otherwise I would have forgot to post up this pic of the Textured Hand of Nod. I'm especially satisfied with the all-around texturing but if something should be fixed it's the ball in the hand and the arm and fingers of the hand itself...well at least some parts of them...maybe a bit darker colour on the rock wall too, and the doors look a bit messy...Well this is the first version, hope ya like it.

I decided to that I'll keep a pause in C&C:TA for few days so that I get my interest back again. All the time I will use on unitmaking for that time will be used on normal TA units...such as the Core version of Shocker plane. Or maps, maybe...

FIRST CLEANUP

A new month means that we're going to throw all the news from last month to an archived news section where you can go if you missed some news recently. This will boost up the load time of the page quite a bit.

TEST GAME

I ran a test game with HellRaiser, our main unit tester and I must say that it was really fun. Mostly because I felt that I had really done something great there. Anyway most of the units and weapons still need adjusting but that's all in future when we can really compare all the units to each other.

BUSY

I have a lot of models to texture as Firagon sent me the Silo model and I haven't even textured the previous Hand of Nod yet. Scripting the walk animation for the minigunner is also very frustrating and trying to make it look good is almost impossible. But everything will be done, that's for sure! Just wait a little while...
